Tennessee Highway Patrol Hosting Conference

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will host the second "Breaking the Glass Ceiling" Conference for women in law enforcement April 6-8, 2015 in Nashville.  The conference will feature prominent speakers and instruction in a variety of law enforcement topics.  Major Betty Blair will serve as director for the event.


Registration is $150 per person or $125 for three or more attending from the same agency.  Attendees should register by March 6, 2015.  The meeting will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville.  Hotel reservations can be made by calling 877-491-7397.  Reserve by March 6 and mention the Women in Law Enforcement Conference to receive the special rate of $132 plus tax.

Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network

The Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network (KWLEN) held the 15th Annual Training Conference November 12-14, 2014 in Louisville.  The keynote speaker was Chief Bernadette DiPino of the Sarasota, Florida Police Department.  A variety of workshops addressed both professional and personal issues.


The following officers were elected for the next year.

KWLEN Training Conference

The Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network (KWLEN) will hold its annual training conference November 12-14 in Louisville.  The event will be hosted by the Louisville Metro Police Department.  The conference theme is "Living the Dream:  A Day in the Life..."  It will offer training in a variety of law enforcement subjects.


An important feature will be the awards ceremony honoring organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to criminal justice.


A service project is always part of the KWLEN Conference.  This year's efforts will benefit the Home of the Innocents serving children in crisis.

Congratulations to Chief Deborah Faulkner

Congratulations to Deborah Faulkner on her recent appointment as Chief of Police in Franklin, Tennessee.  She was serving as Interim Chief at the time of her appointment.  She joined the Franklin Police Department in June, 2014.


Before going to Franklin, she served as Inspector General for Tennessee investigating fraud against TennCare, the state's low income health care system.  Chief Faulkner retired from the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department where she moved up the ranks to Deputy Chief.

NCLEWA Training Conference

The North Carolina Law Enforcement Women's Association (NCLEWA) will hold its annual training conference September 8-12 in Charlotte.  The event will be held at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Training Facility.  Topics will include interviews and interrogation, nutrition and wellness, verbal judo and leadership.


A highlight of the conference will be the announcement of the NCLEWA Woman of the Year.  The 2013 honor went to Officer Kolenya Edwards of the Greenville Police Department.  She was promoted to sergeant later in the year.  In 2012, the award was presented to Officer Trudy Allen of the Jacksonville Police Department.


Sergeant Ericka Heath, Hickory Police Department, is President of NCLEWA.

Lieutenant Jennifer Sandlin


Congratulations to Jennifer Sandlin on her promotion to Lieutenant with the Kentucky State Police (KSP).  She graduated from the police academy in 2003 and was assigned as a Trooper until she was promoted to Sergeant in 2010.  She was named Lieutenant earlier this year and assigned to Post 9 in Pikeville, Kentucky where she had served as Sergeant.  She received a citation for bravery from the KSP in 2011.

Lieutenant Sandlin has been an active member of the Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network (KWLEN) since 2006.  She is now on the Board of Officers, serving as Eastern Regional Representative.  She received the KWLEN Exceptional Valor Award in 2009 and was presented the Leadership Award in 2012.

Lieutenant Sandlin is a 2002 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science.

She is married to KSP Trooper Wes Sandlin.  They have two children, Luke, age 8 and Brooklynn, age 6.
